Leading the way in 2009 As the creator of the first yoga mat recycling program, 2008 was filled with support and encouragement from many facets of the yoga industry. With help from Manduka and other yoga mat companies and industry resources, we changed the product life cycle of yoga mats. In 2008, more than 50% of mats collected were upcycled into other products, including yoga products! With help from studios, more than 30% of mats collected were donated to local community programs. The remaining mats are slated for upcycling in 2009. Ever wondered what to do with your old yoga mat? So did I. Then I wondered what was happening to all the yoga mats from people in my yoga class. With a desire to save our world one mat at a time, Recycle Your Mat was born. Recycle Your Mat was formed around three basic ideas: 1) keep yoga mats out of the landfill 2) create a system for yoga mat recycling 3) recycle and upcycle mats in a ecologically conscious way
